Day and evening counseling appointments are available Monday through Friday in our Golden Valley and Elk River therapy offices. Please be aware that most Pathways therapists only see clients on select days each week. When calling for an appointment, have your insurance card available as our staff will need some information in order to verify your coverage and make sure your insurance carrier covers the therapist you are requesting. Please note that appointments for new clients have to be made by the client if he or she is 18 years or older.
Our Elk River and Golden Valley counseling offices have a comfortable waiting room for use prior to your session. Unfortunately, it is not permitted to leave a child younger than 12 unattended during your session. Please make arrangements at home prior to your counseling session for these pre-teens.
Sessions and Fees
Sessions with your Pathways therapist are generally 50 minutes in length. If you are paying for sessions through your insurance, your insurance company will be billed electronically by Pathways. However, you may still be responsible for a deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance. For your convenience, we take Visa and MasterCard for any out-of-pocket charges you have. If you do not have insurance and believe you will have difficulty paying for your sessions, Pathways Psychological Services offers a sliding fee scale based upon your income. Ask about that on your initial call to our office. Please be prepared to provide a verification of income. We would like to help in any way we can.
Many employers also offer an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) which may include some low-to-no cost therapy sessions. Check with your employer. In addition, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you may have funds available to help you offset the cost of your sessions. Some churches have also helped pastors, staff, or members with counseling costs when finances are a problem.
A large percentage of insurance policies have coverage for psychotherapy sessions. This coverage is usually referred to as outpatient mental health benefits. If you do have counseling coverage, you may be responsible for part of the cost of your sessions. It is important to ask your insurance company questions about any deductible, co-pay, co-insurance, or visit limits per year that you might have. You will also want to ask if Pathways Psychological Services is an in-network provider for your policy since that often (but not always) affords you the best coverage. Our staff will be more than happy to assist you in sorting through your initial insurance questions.Pathways Psychological Services is in-network with a large number of insurance companies and has a long standing relationship with most of them. It is important to be aware that each therapist is credentialed separately with an insurance company so some Pathways therapists may be in-network with your insurance and others may be out-of-network. Our staff will be happy to help you with this.Below is a partial list of Pathways in-network insurance carriers:
- Behavioral Health Care Providers
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Health Partners
- Minnesota Medical Assistance
- Metropolitan HealthCare
- Patient Choice
- Value Options
- United Behavioral Health
- United Health Care
- Many Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
If your insurance company is not listed above, please call our office as we are adding new carriers whenever possible.
Starting counseling sessions for the first time can be intimidating. The Pathways Psychological Services staff will attempt to make your visit as stress-free as possible. In your first visit, we will give you registration paperwork and will fully explain our policies to you. Your therapist will also go over our Professional Counseling Agreement with you and answer any of your questions. During your initial sessions, your therapist will work with you to create mutually determined therapy treatment goals which will generally be the focus of future counseling sessions. It is important to us that your mental health needs are being met and we encourage ongoing conversations between you and your therapist so necessary adjustments can be made along the way. Please feel free to ask questions.
We are dedicated to maintaining the confidentiality of our clients. We will ask you to sign a Confidential Release of Information Form before we speak with others outside of the Pathways counseling clinic about your visits with us.
